No 23. The End

From Family photos

This could be me celebrating the end of this Learning Program!!!! Or it could be me at a Murder

Mystery Weekend disguised as Grandma Jones.

This has been a long and arduous learning experience, trying to understand everything while customers keep asking questions. I think I enjoyed setting up my own blog although I can't imagine anybody being interested in what I have to say - my photos are great though. Online image generators were fun. I especially enjoyed making my own start page for Google and finding lovely cat videos on Youtube.

This would have been a better learning experience if time was dedicated to it and more help was available. However I feel great now I'm finished!

No. 22 - Audiobooks

I have used Netlibrary in the past. Why don't we have it anymore? The study guides are good and also access to out-of-print classic fiction. I can't download audiobooks because I don't have an MP3 player!

No. 21 - Podcasts

I had a lot of trouble finding a podcast that was interesting. Finally I discovered President Bush's Weekly Radio Address and also a parody of his address so I posted both of them to my Bloglines account. Then I found a book review podcast called NPR:Books so I posted that as well.

I also noticed some podcasts for learning languages which could be useful, and it's free! Other podcasts such as "New Scientist" weekly podcast and "Lonely Planet" travelcasts could be very popular with some of our borrowers.

After browsing the podcast directories listed I decided they were too "American". I find podcasts from ABC radio really good. You can hear interviews and programs you miss while at work!

Nearly finished!!!!!!!

No. 20 - YouTube

I didn't think I was going to enjoy YouTube until I came across a video of this beautiful kitten.

Then I found more - and more! The customers must be wondering why I'm smiling at the computer.

Don't know how this can be applied to library websites, although it's probably good for customer service - makes me smile and feel warm and fuzzy!

No. 19 Discovering Web 2.0 tools

Finally - I have found something really exciting! After looking through the short list of Web 2.0 Awards. I found "Google Start" and had a lot of fun organizing my own Google start page. I added lots of things which I will find useful. ABC News, The Age, Wikipedia, search Youtube, Free iTunes, Cricinfo (to check the cricket scores while I'm at work!), Nat Geographic picture of the day and Gardening Australia. Then I had fun rearranging them so the most useful ones were at the top. Might even add some more later.

Zoho Writer

I have played with Zoho Writer. I like the way you can access your documents on any computer without having a memory stick. Not sure whether I will use it very much, although I particularly like the way it saves automatically. I can see this being useful for the public - not having to rely on Word

Wikis - no. 16 & 17

I can see how Wikis can be useful, but I worry about using them for research when they can be altered or false information added by anyone. The Book Lovers Wiki could be something we could use here. It's obviously just people's opinions.
While browsing through "Library Success:A best practices Wiki" I discovered someother libraries weeding practices. "If in doubt, keep it" was one library's slogan! Not what we use at YPRL.

I have created my PBWIKI and learnt how to link it to my blog and share it with two friends!

Oscar asleep in the washing basket

I'm just adding photos to my blog for practice. Does anyone know how to put this under the photo?
